  1. KARI School Scholarship Program

    About the program

    The KARI Student Scholarships program is an education based initiative for Aboriginal Senior High School students within the Liverpool and Fairfield local Government areas. This initiative is delivered in partnership with individual High Schools and provides all successful applicants with financial assistance to purchase school-related items. This is designed to ease the costs of studying and to provide support and opportunities for Aboriginal students to complete their Higher School Certificate.

    Our Scholarships cover the costs of study such as buying uniforms, text books, stationary, school excursions and more. We provide 30 scholarships per year of up to $1,000 per student. Our scholarships are based on the merit of each individual applicant; we assess the applicant's commitment and attitude to their studies and the benefit that a scholarship would provide them.

    Our scholarship students also have opportunities for support, mentoring and social and recreational initiatives.

  2. Racing to the Top

    Racing Top the Top is a fun, strengths based initiative run in schools. This program has been sponsored by KARI for a number of years and is coordinated by the award winning team at Koori Communications and Training. This program uses the hands on experience of building high performance 2 Stroke model racing cars to mentor and train Aboriginal Youth. The program has shown evidence of building resilience in Aboriginal youth, keeping youth engaged in school and building their confidence and skills.

    This program helps young people to;

    • Gain the skills needed to construct, operate and maintain a small engine;
    • Provide each participant with a model car kit which they are responsible for assembling and maintaining;
    • Learn respect for the teacher, each other, and most importantly for themselves;
    • Learn cooperation, team work, listening skills, pleasure in learning and the joy of accomplishment;
    • Explore pathways that lead to senior years of school, TAFE, university and employment.
