A group of 9 young Aboriginal women made their debut into community on Saturday the 6th of July at KARI Limited’s 8th Debutante Ball. The event took place at Revesby Workers Club in the enchanting Whitlam Room.
KARI Limited’s Debutante Ball is a program that was introduced 8 years ago, in order to bridge the gap between the local Aboriginal community of South Western Sydney and their local Police Force. Each Debutante is paired with a Police Officer from the Liverpool Police Area Command and over a period of 8 weeks they work together to perfect their debut dance. These dance lessons are a great opportunity for both the local Police and the Debutantes to interact with each other on a more personal level, allowing both parties to understand more about each other in a friendly environment.
Despite nerves kicking in, the 9 beautiful Debutantes and their respective partners graced their dance floor beautifully, in front of family, friends and the community. After the formalities were over, the Debutantes felt relieved that they had completed their journey into womanhood.
The night ended with DJ Monty taking to the stage to provide the Debutantes as well as all who attended, an enjoyable way to cap off the night.
We are looking forward to continuing this event in the future years, as well as continuing to strengthen the relationship between the police force and the Aboriginal community.
