KARI and the NSW Police Liverpool branch ran another successful 2017 Debutante Ball. Without our local Police commands, Liverpool and Green Valley Local Area Command, the event wouldn’t be possible.
Designed to close the gap between the Aboriginal community and the NSW Police Force, the event sees Aboriginal women between the ages of 16-25 join partners provided by the police commands for a night of dancing and a sit-down meal.
The young women were also presented to the community by someone who holds a senior position within a local organisation, as per the traditional model of debutante balls.
The 2017 Debutante Ball was held at the Revesby Workers Club with 13 young women making their debut.
Aunty Maggie Williams delivered a warming Welcome to Country.
Each year, the KARI Debutante Ball is supported by numerous organisations and individuals. Without this help we would not be able to run the program.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our partners and volunteers who made this year’s event a reality and who allowed us to make this day a special occasion for all of our debutante’s and their families.

A slideshow ran on the night to showcase the debutantes and their partners. It highlighted their journey both individually and as a group in a positive way. The slideshow also showcased the commitment of the officers, many of whom will make five years’ involvement in the program if they return for 2018.
The night was a showcase of the strength in our partnership with the NSW Police Force. The event was also a celebration of the hard work of our debutantes as well as showcasing the pride they instilled in their families and community.
Overall, this was another highly successful event for KARI and the community.
