The KARI Greater Western Sydney (GWS) Opportunity Hub was proud to support the 2026 First Nations All Stars Rugby League U14 Exhibition Games at Redfern Oval on Wednesday 23 September.
Bringing together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from across Sydney Catholic Schools, the event celebrated young people, Culture and identity while strengthening connections with community. It also gave students the opportunity to represent their schools, connect with other young people and take part in a day centred on pride, participation and belonging.
The day began with a Smoking Ceremony led by Uncle Les Mcleod before the U14 girls took to the field, followed by the boys’ exhibition match. Across both games, the focus extended beyond competition, creating a space for young people to showcase their skills, celebrate Culture and share the experience with their peers, families and community.
Throughout the day, the KARI GWS Opportunity Hub team was on the ground connecting with students and community members, providing a BBQ and giving attendees the chance to try the Hub’s inflatable spear throwing activity. The team also supported Optus SIM activations during the event.
For the KARI GWS Opportunity Hub, events like this provide another way to engage with young people in a relaxed and positive environment, strengthen relationships and create opportunities for connection through Culture and community.
The day was a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander excellence and provided young people with an opportunity to proudly represent their Culture, connect with one another and showcase their talent on the field.
The KARI Greater Western Sydney Opportunity Hub is Funded by the NSW Government.
