It was a spectacular day at the trots for the whole family thanks to KARI and Club Menangle. It was a day filled with cultural activities for all ages to enjoy as well as some nail biting excitement on the track.
With races starting at 12:50, including a couple of runs from the mini trots, there was non stop action on the track all day.
The main event for the day was of course the final of the KARI JC Caffyn Plate series. Drivers were presented their silks as well as a specially designed polo from KARI.
The final of the KARI JC Caffyn Plate Series consisted of the following drivers:
- Passions Delight – Courtney Sutherland
- Arcachon – Matt Coffee
- Rolling Along – Jess Prior
- Power Surge – Hayden Green
- Blue Moon Rising – Damien Smith
- Corbie Bolt – Jimmy “The Legend” Brown
- A Sweet Success – Jack Wade
- Italian Delight – Bruce O’Brien
- Ballymore Boy – McKayler Barnes
- Heza Bromac – Josh Aiken
The winner of the JC Caffyn Plate series was Josh Aiken.
The Muggera Dancers provided cultural workshops and taught children of the community how to make different animal sounds with a didgeridoo. The KARI team were set up in the Tanya – Marquee where children of the community were able to create their own sand art, as well as posters for the race to cheer on the drivers.
Upon arrival the community passed by KARI’s outdoor marquee, where children were handed an activity card. This interactive card allowed the children to explore Club Menangle and learn about the JC Caffyn Plate, along with the history of Harness racing. The children excitedly returned to KARI’s marquee to receive their show bag packed full of delicious lollies.
Together with Club Menangle, KARI are proud to see the Indigenous Community becoming so involved with Harness racing. It was a fantastic day and we are looking forward to future events for this great sport.
