KARI Limited’s first Community Young Leader’s Camp saw 19 young leaders attend a 3-day camp, with days packed to the brim with workshops and team building exercises. The camp ran from the 15th to the 17th of April at Wesley Mission, Vision Valley Rec Centre located in Arcadia.
Students who attended were nominated by their respective schools, as their teachers believe they exhibit the qualities a leader possesses. The purpose of this camp was to further educate these future leaders with the knowledge of what it takes to be a great leader and to put these ideas in practice in a number of practical team building and individual exercises. The overall aim of this camp was to up-skill these students to become leaders both in their culture and communities.
Special guest speakers who provided workshops for our young leaders included former Rugby League players Beau Champion and Dean Widders. Each workshop facilitated by both Beau and Dean, provided our young leaders with the knowledge and skills on what it takes to be a great leader, whilst overcoming the boundaries and obstacles that may be set before them.
Tasks such as creating vision boards of what they see in their future, and participating as a team to complete the All Stars Indigenous War Cry, saw these young leaders step out of their comfort zones and work together as one. To view our Young Leaders performance of the Indigenous War Cry, see video below:
“It was incredible to see these young leaders step up to the task of performing the Indigenous War Cry. It’s so important for our youth to show pride in their culture and watching them work together was great to see” Said Lauren Drayton, Manager Community Programs.
Overall our Young Leaders took away some valuable information on how to better prepare themselves for their future leadership roles.
