2019 is KARI’s 20th year of service; it has been a time to reflect on KARI’s past and more importantly where we are headed into the future. To celebrate, on Friday 13th September we held our 20th Anniversary Gala Dinner at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Sydney’s Darling Harbour.
Held in the Grand Ballroom, guests were taken on a journey with a number of visual elements canvassing key moments over the past 20 years. A performance of traditional Indigenous dances from the Muggera Dancers allowed guests the opportunity to immerse themselves into Indigenous culture.
Our very own KARI Singers performed their renditions of Yothu Yindi’s World Turning and Djapana. The atmosphere was electric as members of the community and KARI’s corporate partners reflected about their experiences with KARI.
KARI Founder, Paul Ralph, shared some of his fondest memories of how KARI came to be.
“We opened our doors in 1999, just two people, myself and Cheryl and that was going to be the starting point of thinking about, what can we do to make a difference in the community? We had a very little office, and very little resources, but we had a BIG dream.”
After the formalities, special guest Nathan Foley performed a number of classic hits that allowed guests to let loose and enjoy the remainder of the night.
KARI would like to thank Ray Hadley OAM, for being our MC for the night, as well as all of our Corporate partners and the community. KARI would not be able to continue changing lives and keeping culture if it weren’t for the colossal support we receive from our corporate partners and the community.
