As KARI LTD’s Debutante Ball goes into its 7th year, we couldn’t be more proud. The success of the ball wouldn’t be possible without the strong partnership between KARI and the NSW Police Force.
The Debutante Ball is one of our Community Programs that is run by KARI. It aims to close the gap between the Aboriginal community of South West Sydney and the Liverpool Local Area Command.
Young Aboriginal women aged 16 through to 25 and police officers from Liverpool attend dance classes throughout the year. This is to ensure they’re dance ready for the big night as well as allowing the group to get to know each other throughout the program.
Police participation in this program is voluntary and continues to grow each year. The program itself aims to provide opportunities for the young women participating to develop and nurture self confidence.
KARI would like to thank a variety of bridal stores around Liverpool who have donated dresses. This gives the young women in the program a variety of dresses to choose from.
What takes place on the night of the Debutante Ball?
Over 200 guests attend the event. The guest list consists of KARI and Police dignitaries, families of the debutantes and members of the local community.
During the event, we introduce the Debutantes one by one to guests and they perform the dance they have been rehearsing for the last 2 months.
We then have a father/daughter dance, followed by a series of speeches given by KARI and Police dignitaries.
The event finishes with a ceremonial cutting of a cake which the debutantes do as a group, followed by professional photography and a DJ set to finish the night off in high spirits, allowing both the debutantes and their Police partners an opportunity to celebrate and congratulate each other on the successful completion of the program.
