The 2016 NSW Aboriginal Rugby League Knockout ran for four days in Sydney over the October long weekend at Leichardt Oval, kicking off on Friday 30 September.
The Redfern All Blacks, who were the winners for 2015, hosted a great weekend of fun for the entire community. The team went on to take out the title again for 2016 against the Newcastle All Blacks, 40-12 – a great effort!
The Redfern All Black’s women’s side also won its grand final against the Western Sydney Red Belly Blacks, 24-4.
The Knockout is more than just a sporting event. It is about bringing families and communities together, celebrating culture and Indigenous football talent. The buzz around the field as spectators cheered on their clubs was fantastic with families and community members travelling from all over NSW to cheer on their teams.
A number of stalls ran over the weekend, providing visitors with the opportunity to receive access to educational resources, information and access to services, including free health checks.
