March has been a month of meaningful moments and exciting progress across our programs at KARI. From cultural events to new initiatives and community support, we’re proud to share the work our teams have been doing to strengthen culture, connection, and opportunity.
Celebrating Culture and Community
On March 1, KARI Foundation proudly sponsored the Ella 7s Rugby Tournament on the NSW Central Coast. This prestigious event not only celebrates excellence in sport but also plays a vital role in nurturing Aboriginal talent. The Ella 7s provides a valuable platform for young players to showcase their skills and aspire to national representation.
On March 6, we partnered with Wilson Security to host the Aboriginal Women’s Wellbeing Conference and Expo, offering a space for women to connect, share, and explore pathways to personal and community wellbeing.
KARI also marked International Women’s Day alongside the John Holland Group at the Upper South Creek Project Site—highlighting the importance of supporting and empowering women in all walks of life.
Young People Leading the Way
March also saw the success of our Young Leaders Camp at Nambucca, where young participants engaged in leadership activities, cultural mentoring, and confidence-building experiences—all in a safe and supportive environment.
Meanwhile, the University Pathways Expo at Liverpool Catholic Club gave high school students the chance to explore future study and career options, connecting directly with universities and industry professionals.
Our VIP Program (Vocal and Performance) also kicked off in South West Sydney, giving students the opportunity to build their creative skills with professional coaching. The program will culminate in a live concert where participants can showcase their talent.
Greater Western Sydney Opportunity Hub – March Highlights
The Opportunity Hub team delivered a variety of impactful programs throughout March, including:
•Cultural Mentoring sessions at Holy Spirit Catholic College in Lakemba
•Cultural Cooking workshops at Cranebrook High School
•The Western Sydney International Airport “Taking Off” Program, which gave young people a glimpse into careers in aviation
These programs help reinforce cultural identity while opening doors to exciting futures for young people in our community. The Opportunity Hub is proudly funded by the NSW Government.
New Support Tools for Carers
This month also marked the launch of the KARI Online Carer Support Hub—a dedicated digital platform created to support the essential work of carers in our community. The hub provides easy access to the Carer Resource Guide, emergency contacts, upcoming events, and training opportunities. It’s part of our continued effort to ensure carers feel connected, supported, and empowered.
Container Deposit Scheme – Making an Impact in Victoria
KARI is proud to employ over 25 First Nations staff across our two CDS depots in Melton and Coburg North, Melbourne. In just the final week of March, the two sites processed over 813,000 containers, returning more than $81,000 to the local community. It’s a powerful example of how sustainability and employment can go hand in hand.
If your business—or one you know—is interested in setting up CDS bins or arranging can collection in Victoria, get in touch via cds@kari.org.au.
