KARI’s Young Leaders recently joined the Shining Stars Foundation Outreach Service for a meaningful evening supporting people experiencing homelessness across Liverpool.
With support from KARI’s Cultural Unit, carers and long-time community volunteer Lyn Townsend, the group prepared hygiene packs and gathered sleeping bags, blankets, mats and food. They then travelled to Bigge Park, where they helped distribute meals and essential items to community members.
The Young Leaders Program creates opportunities for children and young people in out-of-home care to build confidence, develop leadership skills and make positive contributions to their community.
Throughout the evening, the young people showed compassion, maturity and respect. They worked together, connected with community members and saw firsthand how small acts of care can make a meaningful difference.
The experience also encouraged the group to recognise the strengths they already possess. By stepping forward to support others, they demonstrated that leadership can be expressed through generosity, responsibility and a willingness to help.
At the end of the evening, each Young Leader personally thanked Lyn for the opportunity. Many shared how meaningful the experience had been and asked if they could participate again.
We are incredibly proud of the care and commitment shown by the group. Through experiences like this, KARI is supporting young people to recognise themselves as capable leaders, positive role models and valued contributors to their communities.
