Supported by our partners at Transurban, WestConnex, KIA and Suttons, we have been able to make a dream a reality, with the establishment of the KARI Transurban Aboriginal Driving School.
This initiative is one that has received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback. Our community expressed the need to access safe, reliable vehicles and culturally appropriate driving instructors to complete their learner driver hours. By providing these key assets, we ensure they are a step closer to success in attaining a provisional driver’s license.
This program is an extension of our existing partnership with Transurban WestConnex, the Indigenous Driver program, in which we provide young people with free driving lessons with an external provider, to ensure they are meeting their hour requirements.
Due to the success of this program, we saw that it was important to meet the ongoing requests of the community and provide an in-house program that assists Aboriginal youth from start to finish with obtaining their provisional licence with the overall aim to provide a bridge to access employment and tertiary education opportunities.
